The Anatomy of Silence
Original Double-Sided Graphite Artwork | April Martin
Some silences are chosen. Others are imposed.
Disturbing, intimate, and psychologically charged, The Anatomy of Silence explores the fragile boundary between expression, control, and the human form.
At the center of this haunting graphite composition, a woman's face emerges from a tangle of organic and mechanical forms. A sharp hook draws at her mouth, exposing an unsettling expression caught somewhere between pain, resistance, and transformation.
Her watchful eyes contrast with the disturbing details surrounding her, creating a visual tension between vulnerability and defiance.
Rendered entirely in graphite, the illustration combines delicate tonal shading, rough exploratory marks, and intricate textures. The unfinished passages remain visible, preserving the raw immediacy of the artist's creative process.
A second drawing lives on the reverse.
On the back of the same sheet is a separate graphite portrait study, featuring an expressive close-up of a human face. Its loose, searching lines and layered shading offer another glimpse into the artist's approach to anatomy, emotion, and observation.
Together, these two drawings create a unique collectible original, with the darker narrative illustration serving as the primary composition.
This listing is for one original physical sheet featuring artwork on both sides. It is not a print or reproduction.
