Make room for art.
Good lessons give you something to make. Better ones give you a reason to keep making.
Explore art through painted paper, layered images, storytelling, and the pleasure of finding out what a material can do. Our recorded workshops are being developed for you to enjoy on your own schedule.
Four self-paced courses in development · First workshop: Making Background Papers
Making Background Papers
Begin with ordinary paper and see what it becomes. We'll explore loose washes, printed textures, stencils, and marks that don't need to resemble anything. You'll build a small collection of one-of-a-kind papers to use in journals, collages, cards, and future artwork.
- Six short, repeatable technique demonstrations
- A printable supply guide and technique sheet
- Ten prompts for continuing at home
- Your own collection of painted and printed papers
Not available for purchase yet
Start with one sheet of paper.
Before the recorded workshop arrives, try a small experiment of your own. I'm also preparing a printable sampler, Five Ways to Begin a Background Paper, to accompany the first release.
Request a release notice ↗For now this opens my contact page. Mention “Inkwell course updates.” The printable sampler is still being prepared; no automatic download or mailing-list signup is active here yet.
The five-minute beginning
- Choose two colors that interest you, without trying to match them.
- Move the first color across a spare sheet using a brush, card, or sponge.
- Add a second layer after the first is dry enough to work over.
- Make three different marks with a pencil, stamp, or household object.
- Turn the page in every direction. Notice what you want to try next.
If one workshop becomes a practice.
The next three recorded courses will build on that beginning. Each stands alone, so you can choose what interests you when it is released.
Art Journaling: Start Where You Are
Color, collage, images, and words find their way onto the same page. Build a journal that feels like yours through gentle experiments and a suggested eight-week creative practice.
Planned: video demonstrations, prompts, and a printable workbook.

Planned: storyboarding templates, worksheets, and recorded demonstrations.

Digital Art Journaling
Build layered journal pages with your own photographs, words, textures, and color. Choose the program that fits the way you work. The creative exercises will be shared, with separate demonstrations for each program's tools.
Choose your learning path
Planned: one $59 course with a choice of software path, tailored video walkthroughs, digital textures, adaptable templates, and journal prompts. You need only one of these programs.

The Complete Inkwell Collection
For anyone who wants to explore several parts of a creative life, the complete collection will bring all four self-paced courses together. This is a future bundle, not a preorder. It will open only when the included courses are ready to deliver.
$246 purchased separately.
Save $67 with the collection.
I spent years teaching technique: how to handle a brush, begin an art journal, arrange an image, and build a surface. The thing I kept noticing, though, was what happened before the first mark. People were afraid to get it wrong.
I began making more room for play. For a page that turns out badly. For an unexpected color, a remembered shape, or a piece that doesn't look anything like the example. I still teach the tools and the craft. I just want the tools to serve the person using them.
My hope is that you finish a lesson with something you know how to do, and something you're curious enough to try on your own.
Bringing art to your group?
Interested in a live creative workshop or, in the future, a licensed course for your program? Tell me about your organization and the people you'd like to serve. Group arrangements and pricing are quoted separately; course licenses are not currently on sale.
Before you begin.
Can I purchase the recorded classes today?
Not yet. The self-paced classes and the four-course collection are in development. Prices shown are proposed launch prices. No course purchase or payment is taken through this page.
Do the digital courses include art supplies?
Physical materials are not included with the planned recorded courses. Each course will have a downloadable supply guide listing what you need before you begin.
What happens if I request release updates?
The current buttons open the studio contact page so you can ask to be informed. This is not yet an automated email list. A newsletter signup will be added before the digital course launches.
Do I need Procreate, Photoshop, and Canva for Digital Art Journaling?
No. Choose one software path when the course is released. The same creative projects will be taught with program-specific demonstrations. Each platform has different tools, so some techniques and templates will vary. The program itself, including any paid subscription or license, is not included in the $59 course price.
Will the recorded lessons have captions and downloads?
My plan is to provide captions and the printable course resources described above. Final course details, access terms, and refund policies will be published before checkout opens.
You only need somewhere to start.
The first recorded workshop will be Making Background Papers. Try the free exercise today, or ask to hear when the course is ready.
